About…

Based on the south coast of NSW, Hal has been quietly dedicating himself to developing and creating his own naturalistic style of contemporary garden design and biomorphic abstract sculpture. His distinct style is the culmination of his working life as a landscape gardener, plantsman and designer together with studies in art, design and sustainability.

Growing up on the family farm gave Hal a strong foundation in the practical knowledge and competent hands-on skillset for landscaping and horticulture but it also cultivated in him a deep fascination to connect to landscape and the natural world. This exploration forms a large part of his art & design practice.

Inspiring designers such as Bruno Marx, Piet Oudolf, Fiona Brockhoff, Michael McCoy & Mary Reynolds as well as artists such as Henry Moore, Miro, Mattisse & Bruce Armstrong also influence Hals’ work with their naturalistic, playful, almost dreamlike qualities in their work.

Having worked in an array of landscapes from the South West Slopes, Sunshine Coast hinterland, Indonesia, Melbourne and now the South Coast of NSW, Hal uses this knowledge to find creative, thoughtful, conceptual solutions with a considered, sustainable and resourceful edge geared towards the local climate.
